Monday Motivation -The Importance of Defining Moments

    Monday, July 28th, 2008

Everyone knows what a defining moment in life is. The easy ones that come to mind are the more personal defining moments such as marriage or the birth of your children. However, I also believe that is is necessary to have defining moments in your path to success as an affiliate or entrepreneur.

I can think of a few defining moments in my professional career over the past 12 years. A couple of these defining moments have had a profound impact on my past, present, and future. Likewise I’m sure over the coming years I will experience a few more defining moments. Welcome to the life of a risk taker and entrepreneur!

A defining moment is a moment or period in your life that changes the way you think, your direction, or everything you do moving forward. The difficulty however is sometimes recognizing what your defining moments are throughout life, and then seizing them when you are in the midst of one.

When you recognize a possible defining moment in your life or business, you need to embrace it and make a commitment to seize the moment and take control of your own destiny. Take ACTION! As an entrepreneur myself, there have been times when I have had to take a huge leap of faith. Sometimes I have been right, and other times I have been wrong. But I made the commitment either way

If you feel like your professional career might be in a slump or perhaps things are not going as planned, seek out a defining moment in your life. Regardless of what your situation is, you have to have passion and enthusiasm about what you’re doing. Nobody can create this for you except YOU.

I imagine in 1997 when Tiger Woods won his first major at the age of 21, this was a defining moment in his life. Something tells me he looked deep into where he had been and where he was going, and at that point he knew he was about to embark on a lifelong journey to be the best golfer in the world. This is the kind of attitude and passion I am talking about.

For some of us, we can look back and recognize a few golden opportunities that have come and gone over the years. Don’t worry, I am right there with you. But it is us and only us who can change the course in which our lives are taking us.

Having a defining moment doesn’t have to be some awe inspiring thing that happens either. I usually don’t get too personal in this blog, but I feel in this post it is important.

A few weeks ago I was really struggling with some of the past decisions I have made, as well as where I want to be in 10 years. So I literally took an entire day to myself and went Kayaking. During this time I reflected on everything both personally and professionally that I was unhappy with in life.

By the end of the day, my arms were killing me! But more importantly I had changed my state of mind, and now a month later, I can clearly say that this day will become one of the defining moments in my life.

There is no greater happiness in life than knowing the direction you are going, and the roadmap you are following to get there. Here is one of my favorite motivational videos of all time.

    Make it a great week.

RIP Randy Pausch - The World Lost A Great Human Being This Week

    Sunday, July 27th, 2008

A few months ago I posted a video on this blog known as Randy Pausch’s final lecture and last speech to students at Carnegie Mellon. Through youtube and various websites and blogs, this lecture has probably become the most famous final speech ever given.

For those of you not familiar with this final lecture, it was given by Randy Pausch. Randy was diagnosed in September 2006 with pancreatic cancer and given 3-6 months to live. He survived until this past Friday July 25th.

Over the last year of Randy’s life he was able to use his final time to create a legacy that will be carried on for years to come. I can personally say that listening to several of his speakings over the past year or so has been a tremendous inspiration to me. As this post says, the world truly lost a great human being this week. Although Randy passed away, he has left millions of people with inspiration and wisdom about what truly matters in life. Below are two videos that you should make time to watch. RIP Randy.

Dick Masterson Makes Me Look Like An Angel

    Friday, July 25th, 2008

I was debating if I should post this dudes video or not. But it’s Friday so what the hell. Although I sometimes make jokes about women, I think most people know I am just kidding.

Dick Masterson takes it to an entirely different level though. I’ll admit I did laugh a bit while watching this, but only because it was so far out there. Something tells me the only time this guy has sex is when he pays for it or animals are involved.

Anyhow, I think the whole thing and his site MABTW.com are just fronts to drive traffic, be sensational, and make money. If that’s the case, nice work Dick Masterson. Otherwise if that is really how you are, wow you’re a dick. :)

    Have A Great Weekend!
