Monday Motivation - So You Want To Make Six Figures? Then Develop A Six Figure Mindset
Monday, March 10th, 2008
It has always amazed me that there is this stigma surrounding “Making Six Figures”. I suppose it’s the same thing as being a “millionaire”. It’s like once you get to a yearly income of $100K, nothing else matters.
The perception of a person making between $101k a year or $150K a year is the same…….they are six figure earners so there’s really no difference. Yet the perception and difference between $89K a year and $100K seems more significant for some reason. If you told people you made $98,500 last year, most would say “wow, you’re almost there”.
The whole “six figure” thing seems retarded to me. I have made over $100K a year since 2001. My first 100K+ year was when I sold pharmaceuticals. I remember feeling like I had just hit the pinnacle of life with this type of income. At the time, it felt really cool to say “I make six figures”. Now I hate thinking that way. I want to be able to say “I make 7 figures”. If someone asked me now days if I make over six figures a year, I would say “Yea, unfortunately, but not for long”.
Something interesting happened after 2001 though. I preceded to quit my job selling Claritin as it went over the counter and I was going to take a huge pay cut anyways. I got into real estate and worked through the good times and bad times. Likewise I was also starting to generate income from my internet business. What changed after 2001 however was that my expectation was to always make a six figure type income, no matter what I did. I have never really expected to, or even worried about making less.
Keep in mind every job since 2001, I have worked on commission and performance plans. I have never in my life even had a base salary over $35K I don’t think! The point is, even back then my mindset was programed to think in these amounts. I knew my performance had to be at a certain level to maintain the income I had became accustomed to. All I had to do, and still have to every day, is to make sure my work ethic and actions align with my financial goals.
So as an affiliate, if you are starting new sites or projects and hoping they generate $1K - $5K in the coming months; you shouldn’t expect to make six figures, because your mindset and expectation level is stuck in 1st gear.
Every bonafide millionaire that I know is a millionaire because they think in 7 figures. I realize you can’t change your mindset from making a few thousand a month to a millionaire mindset overnight. But if your long term goals are financially driven, then at some point you have to start thinking in those terms.
I remember when my mindest was in the 3 figures! If I worked OT and made an extra $200 on my check I was super excited, and it did make a difference. Then at some point “hundreds” stopped mattering. I’m sure many other people can think back to those days, and eventually the same thing happens in the 4 and 5 figure mindset.
I am going through an interesting transition in my life right now, where I am being forced to raise the bar on my own mindset. It is actually very exciting, but it reminded me of how important it is to have your mindset in these dollar amounts.
The only person who has the right to tell me that I can’t make a 7 figure yearly income is myself. And if I tell myself this, or can’t in my mind envision or fathom consistently making over a million dollars a year, then it will never happen. I remember when people used to give me a hard time about “trying to make money on the internet”……. Who’s laughing now bitches!
Make it a great week!

I suppose an “About Me” page is where you would expect to read a third person professional write up on myself. Hmmm…. well that’s not really my style, so I’ll just go ahead and tell you “about me” in my own words.

Often times I do work late nights, and it seems like the last week or two I have worked a lot of them. I know one of my New Years resolutions was to go to bed earlier, but quite honestly I do some of my best work at night, and I just can’t bring myself to follow through with it.
From the very beginning of CakePoker.com, I have always really liked the room and the people running it. I remember speaking with Doug when they were first rolling it out. WOW, they have came a long way since then!
