Building Wealth Versus Collecting A Paycheck - The Millionaire Mentality
January 29th, 2008 by Jeremy EnkeDo you have first class dreams, but each day with your mind is flying through life in coach? The picture on
the right is how I plan on flying in 10 years. I have confidence that this is possible, however being able to fly in private jets is not just something that is a natural progression in business. It’s going to take a lot of hard work, and the right mindset.
One of the things I love about attending industry events is that it is a chance for me to spend time with other entrepreneurs and like minded people. With the exception of a few individuals like my best friend Karl for example, many of the people I know outside the industry work the 9-5 on a set income.
Trust me, there is nothing wrong with this. In fact I imagine the security of a steady 2 week paycheck and no gray areas is quite nice. However that is not, and will never be me.
If you are an entrepreneur, and someone who has the goal one day being a millionaire, there are a few principles you must always practice.
1. Build Wealth Versus Collecting A Paycheck - Unless you get really lucky, you will never just “become” a millionaire. Everything you do in business including your daily work ethic has to be done with this end goal in mind. Likewise even though times may be tight right now, at some point you will need to start actually building wealth and not just collecting a shitty check. Even if it means socking away only $100 a month into an IRA or savings account. Get your mind programmed to “Build Wealth”.
Or for example, if you sell links on your site for incremental income; take this money and put it all aside to invest in a bigger internet property. Building wealth does not just have to be about actual cash in the bank. It’s about growing your business mindset and finding new sources of residual income. If you truly want to be a millionaire, at some point you will need to not really care when you get paid next. You will need to not live paycheck to paycheck. And most importantly you will need to spend your disposable income on things that will return you more money. Your money needs to make you money.
2. The Millionaire Mentality - This is very important as well. Everyone wants to have millions of dollars, right? But how many people are willing to take the risks and actually work at it. The mentality of every self made millionaire I know is one of which they were willing to do anything and everything it took to get to that point. To be a millionaire, you have to possess a work ethic that is better than 99% of the rest of the lazy fu*** we all know.
I will be the first to say that I have been fortunate in my career and I have seen a great deal of success. But at the same time, I have worked more hours in the past 5 years than most people will work in 10 years. I have also assumed huge risks that would send some people into a nervous breakdown.
I wanted to write this post because last week at CAP Euro I saw a lot of young guys who should be the future ballers in our industry. I WISH I could go back to my early 20’s and get into internet marketing. If you are in this lucky period of your life, embrace it and start thinking about building wealth NOW. Get that millionaire mentality immediately. We all know living and working each day just for that shitty check every other Friday sucks.
If you don’t like it, change it. And remember, Money Never Sleeps.

I suppose an “About Me” page is where you would expect to read a third person professional write up on myself. Hmmm…. well that’s not really my style, so I’ll just go ahead and tell you “about me” in my own words.

Great and interesting post on confidence building. Agree with you fully.

Right on, I can’t agree more! I’ve been a youth basketball coach for many years, this was not my daily job but a hobby, since basketball is just a tiny sport in my country. Anyways, like you say in your post: “Get that millionaire mentality immediately” is so right, and that will definitely help you in most aspects of live. My personal experience with basketball is that my team could beat any other team with the right mentality, but could loose games as well being nonchalant, considering my team was top youth. Same counts for business….. having the right mindset/mentality is a must, and hard work will pay off!

This is a great blog post. It reminded me of the movie The Secret which I saw recently. I am just learning now how to control my own destiny.

Good post as usual Jeremy. I think CAP Euro was very motivational and thanks to it I know I will be accumulating some serious wealth in no time. Sitting behind the wheel of that Ferrari really made me think… DAMN! I want this thing!

Jeremy,
This is a good post and motivational indeed. However, I think you missed one of the biggest pieces.
Excitement about what you create and how it helps other people.
This is what really motivates me.
For me, as a rakeback affiliate, I help increase a player’s EV. That motivates me.
But all poker affiliates (at least the successful ones) are providing something of value for a player to
go through them. It may be strategy pointers, it may be quality room comparisons, it may be a freeroll,
it may be a tournament aggregator.
Your players actually use these things. That should be a motivator for a quality affiliate.
Don’t get me wrong. I like making a good living. I might even be, in your words, “a certfied balla.”
But a large part of how I got to that status is being motivated by people using my value adds.

I like what you said about having The Millionaire Mentality. The willingness to do anything and everything it took to get to the point is the characteristic which differentiate millionaire with others…Success needs hard effort and willingness to challenge the risk.

Good stuff. There is a reason all the big affiliates run with eachother. You guys are all so positive.

Surrounding yourself with positive people is the easiest thing anyone can do to raise their own expectations of themselves..
We all know the effects of negative people around us, I think positive people carry much more weight!

Its good to keep a positive mindset in sometimes troubling times. How about all those people who were somehow invested/involved in BSC?
March 31st, 2008 at 8:24 pm
BSC= Bears Sterns?
March 31st, 2008 at 8:25 pm

March 31st, 2008 at 10:01 pm
