  • CAP Euro 2008 – A Smashing Success

January 28th, 2008 by Jeremy Enke

First and foremost I apologize for not updating the blog here or at PAP over the last few days. I had full intentions of blogging each day, however the internet at the Hilton Olympia was completely out.

Personally I can say that this was the most successful and productive gaming convention I have ever attended. It amazes me that throughout all the gray areas and issues we have faced over the past 18 months, this industry just keeps getting better and better.

I could probably write a 10 page blog post about the entire event; however I’ll try to just highlight the key points. As expected there were some great speaker sessions. I sat on the panel for the super affiliate lecture, and we had some great discussions about SEO, rakeback, the absolute poker conundrum, and CPA vs. MGR. I always feel honored and enjoy sitting on these panels, but at times I think there are many other PAP members who would do just as well. My goal for the upcoming conferences is to get some fresh faces on these

Overall the quality of the speakers at these events keeps getting better and better. The actual venue for the expo and ASOP was also one the better ones in my opinion. I’m sure most of you reading this however want to hear about the debauchery and parties and NOT my boring perspectives on business.

Taxi’s – This makes the 4th country I’ve been to in 12 months and gotten scammed in a taxi. On a global scale, the taxi industry has got to be the most crooked shit I have ever seen. We got scammed by some Nigerian taxi drivers when we wanted to find a gentleman’s club, imagine that! In London though, even when you’re not getting scammed, the cost of taxi’s is obscene. A 20 minute ride can easily cost you $100 USD.

The PAP dinner at Gaucho’s was awesome. I think there were around 15 of us. Nice job to Graham for setting this all up. Our total bill was around $3500 USD…… (That’s how PAP members roll)

The inaugural CAP Awards were absolutely phenomenal. Although the nomination process needs to be refined, I can see this event becoming like the Grammy Awards of our industry. Kudos to Alex Pratt and the entire team on making this a success. Alex also arranged for topless women covered in gold paint to be at the event……..I had a great picture of me with them, but dropped it down the elevator shaft at 6:00 AM. (Don’t ask)

All the other parties were first class, as would be expected at any CAP event. Attending these parties really makes you realize how much cash there is, and how many certified ballers there are in our business.

The best party however was when a certain person who shall remain nameless called his Centurion representative (exclusive to Amex black card holders)and said the following. “I need a private table with bottle service at whatever the best club in London is in the next 30 minutes.” 30 minutes later we are at a club that has an $80 cover charge and being greeted by a beautiful hostess that was dedicated to our group the entire night. Our table was in the middle of the dance floor, and there was no shortage of chilled bottles of gray goose. I won’t dare share the price tag of that evening, but if you want to know how the rich and famous party, this was it.

I could go on and on but this blog post is already too long. If any of you guys who attended want to write a post on your personal blogs, or even here about the event, shoot me over an email and I’ll give you some link love or publish it for you. Likewise if you have any questions or comments about CAP Euro, just post them below. Here is a video from betastic.co.uk.

Glad you had a safe trip. Thats too bad about the internet being down. Many of us were hoping for updates.

How was the Lamborghini and the girls you hired?

    2. Aidan Says:

Was there any major news with ASP? Any new big affiliates companies join?

    3. Jeremy Enke Says:

The Lamborghini and girls were fantastic. And yes the Speedpay booth went VERY well. We are currently in negotiations with several big rooms.

I don’t want to publish them here as the deals are not 100% complete yet, however I will promise you that in the next month or so you will see many additions to the program.

Both the feedback we got from affiliates and from operators was extremely positive.

    4. Aidan Says:

Hopefully someone will post pics of the car and girls on their site.

Good to hear about ASP man.

    5. Celine Says:

Nice to hear about your nice trip. I hope someday I can also attend it too and see all the nomination process myself.

    6. Graham Says:

The internet situation was annoying… brought my laptop all the way for pretty much nothing.

    7. Graham Says:

Thanks for the shoutout Jeremy… that dinner was pretty pimped out. We got a really nice room. I’ll get some pics up on my blog shortly, but already added them to the PAP facebook group.

It was great to meet up with all you guys again as it has been a while since vegas ‘06. We had some good times, and yes, those cabbies were the biggest con-artists. I kept grilling the guy on what his CPA was with the strip clubs, because you know he was getting a kick back. Definitely looking forward to the next event!

    8. holyman Says:

Damn, sounds like the event to be at! DO we have pics anywhere?

    9. checkingout Says:

If they know you are not local, I find cabs in most countries will take you for the proverbial “ride”

    10. holyman Says:

Still waiting on pics.. Also, my new thing is going to be “asking when the US conference is?” :)

    11. checkingout Says:

Probably not for another year or more.
