LinkAnte.com - Decent concept, but why am I 403′d?
December 6th, 2007 by Jeremy EnkeWhenever there is a news article or anything with my name (Jeremy Enke) in it, I always get an alert from Yahoo. Well, the other day I got an email and came across this Press Release.
In the PR, he basically calls out Myself, John Chow, Tyler Cruz, Shoemoney, and issues us a personal challenge. Hmmm, Ok, this sounds like it could be interesting. I’m still not sure what the personal challenge actually is or what LinkAnte.com is all about. But what the heck, it looks like it’s for a good cause, and the idea of getting tons of links from winning a poker tourney is interesting. I believe this has been discussed at PAW before. Either way, I’ll bite.
So I decide to go over to LinkAnte.com and check out the site. POW I am greeted with a 403 message, WTF?

I also tried accessing the site from a few different proxies, and still no dice. So I am thinking this is strange….. I decide I will email the guy. Sure enough it bounces. So then I decide to call him with the phone number on the PR. I called and was greeted with a nice recorded message and then placed on hold. Nobody was there, but I did leave a message saying it was Jeremy Enke and I was willing to help, but can’t access the site to see what it’s all about.
This was yesterday morning and I still haven’t heard anything back. I would think if someone was issuing out a personal challenge to me via press releases, they would get back to me ASAP if I did call them.
As I mentioned I still do not know the entire concept because I can’t access the site. But the one thing I would caution is this.
Everyone wants to get lots of quality links. BUT, with all these “thousands” of new links coming all at once, be prepared to get penalized by Google. I saw this first hand with a site last year when we made it to #1 on Digg.com. You will rebound eventually, but Google does not see this as natural link building and will penalize you.
So Dimitry if you are reading this, call me back if you want my help.

I suppose an “About Me” page is where you would expect to read a third person professional write up on myself. Hmmm…. well that’s not really my style, so I’ll just go ahead and tell you “about me” in my own words.

Jeremy, the site is working for me… Did he post this before you even agreed lol?
“John Chow, Jeremy Schoemaker, Jeremy Enke and Tyler Cruz — all mediocre poker players with no real talent, but indeed the hearts of champions were kind enough to step in and help promote the LinkAnte “

Hmmm, I can’t get to it either. Same message you’re getting.. Let us know when/if you hear anything from this guy..

I can’t get to it from my office, but I can get to it from my home office.. Not sure why he has my office IP banned..

Dimitry needs to get his site straight before he goes promoting this thing all over vegas. It’s working so far buddy, but stop giving me an error page when i try to see list of participants.
Jeremy, your blog is outstanding. Long-time reader, first time poster. Best, Byron

Thanks for the kind words Byron, great blog yourself.
Yea, I don’t really understand all the promoting and then having a site that doesn’t work.
Furthermore I do think getting that many links at once is going to cause some Google penalties. Especially since most people will ante up a link from a garbage page.
It’s not like everyone will be giving PR5 homepage links. Of course I have never read the rules either.

I meant to check his site out at home last night, but after thinking about it I decided I wouldn’t waste my time. I don’t know this guy but he must be a bottom feeder with the tactics he’s using. It’s apparent he has no clue about SEO either..
Still, I’m not sure why he has some of our IP’s banned.. Seems odd and I’m positive it’s not an accident.

I got spammed with a similar thing, but it didn’t mention your name Jeremy. This Dimitry guy is also a writer on Tyler Cruz’s blog. Spamming is not the way to promote something. But you have also helped them out by linking back to them in this post.

Thanks Graham, good point. I removed the link to his site. Plus if he writes for Tyler, I’m sure they’ll love what I said in the next post.
I’m convinced the dude really doesn’t give a shit considering half the people are I.P. blocked and he won’t respond to me.
If you’re going to offer me a challenge via Yahoo Press Release, at least answer my voice mails. If he is really doing this to help his Grandma, he is doing her a disservice by conducting business this way.

Hi Jeremy,
Thank you for being open and understanding as a person and business man to answer my appeal for help!
1-The IP blockage was a non-intentional computer glitch.
2- I do not write for Tyler - I paid for a post on his site to help me promote LinkAnte.com. Other than the fact that I have simply been reading his blog for a while, we have no connection. I only hope Tyler, Jeremy Shoemoney, John Chow, all possess at least some of the natural kindness both as people and internet marketers in possibly helping me like Jeremy already is…
Jeremy, you have no idea…I REALLY appreciate you answering my call for help and had no idea that the 877-ante-link was off and that my emails were bouncing. I did get caught up with a situation having to do with my grandmother and wasn’t really around yesterday…
I am for real and so is the issue concerning my grandmother. My family, friends, and I live with hope now that you have answered. I very much look forward to speaking with you and have PM’d you my cell number in the PAW forum. Thank you..!
