Be a Personal Blogger, Not A Digital Prostitute
December 6th, 2007 by Jeremy EnkeConfused by the title? Allow me to explain, it seems like too many people are becoming bloggers for the wrong reason now days. They think they are going to start an instant money maker and have multiple revenue streams on their personal blogs. If you’re looking to make money with a blog, let me give you some advice. Don’t start a blog like the one you are reading right here. In fact don’t start ANY kind of personal blog.
Actually If your goal is to make quick money in the blogosphere, here’s a tip. Start 40 ugly ass blogs with keyword rich domains all on different C-Class I.P. addresses. Then load them with keyword rich content. Hell, outsource all the content to India for $3 a post if you have to. Buy the best converting wordpress template for adsense, and run with it on all your blogs. If you really want, just do a unique header or change the colors on all your blogs if it makes you feel better.
Then spend all day link building and researching which blogs or individual posts are ranking for which keywords. You can then drill down the best way to monetize these individual posts that are ranking well. Next, leverage your network of blogs to drive even more SERPS by internal link building and inter-linking among similar content.
<————-Token “stripper picture” since I mentioned the word prostitute 3 times in this post.
But starting a personal blog with hopes of making money is actually stupid. Sure, it works for a select few like John Chow. But for almost everyone else, it makes you look like a digital prostitute selling ad space, posts, reviews, and anything else that can make you a quick buck.
I’m not saying you shouldn’t do this on every other blog…. just not on your personal blog.
People want to read personal blogs like Mark Cuban, Seth Godin, CalvinAyre, & Ron Jeremy because they want to hear opinions and thoughts. Trust me, nobody gives a shit about your paid review of some other site or widget. A prime example of a personal blog that I think has went a bit downhill is one of the more popular poker blogger entrepreneurs. **cough** T.C.
It’s still a decent blog, and many of his posts are good. However every other time I go there it’s a paid review, or some kind of advertisement in a post. Nobody going to an entrepreneurs blog to “follow their journey” wants to read this stuff. Nothing screams “I’m not a baller” louder than selling a post for $85.
I really didn’t mean to single anyone out in this post. I just see a lot of people doing personal blogs lately. The point I am trying to get across is that making money on the internet is a hell of alot easier with websites. If you are going to have a personal blog, keep it personal, or talk about your niche or specialty.
Of course you should want to make money with your blog. BUT, making money should not be the main intent of a personal blog. When you make this your main objective, it becomes horrendously obvious to all your readers.
For the record I did make just shy of $30 on Adsense last month on this blog. And I sold one Sweat Sedo. Now, that my friends is how you ball with a personal blog.
Feel free to share your comments or tell me what a dumb ass I am for not trying to make heaps of money with a personal blog.

I suppose an “About Me” page is where you would expect to read a third person professional write up on myself. Hmmm…. well that’s not really my style, so I’ll just go ahead and tell you “about me” in my own words.

I think you are spot on. I am not a huge blog fan but I make my usual visits between this one, and a few other PAW members who are either blogging about their own personal experiences and ideas on affiliating/seo/personal goals or in your case a little bit of everything. Adding in stories of your personal life because you want to is awesome and it connects to people..plus you know seeing Jeremy in a pink bunny costume, pair of tights, and having your better half step in every now it’s just…real
I don’t think you can get any better than that

I know I started my blog to add content to my site with an easy interface. Sometimes I just have opinions on shit no one wants to listen to and feel like free-typing without worrying if it perfect or not.
I think a blog allows you to add content to an already established website and not worry about it PERTAINING to what your site is about.
That’s my take.

I think for now on though, I am going to add pictures of strippers.

100% in agree with you about a certain T.C… that blog went from excellent to poor in a matter of months - finally removed it from my bookmarks after it sunk to the lows of blantant racism and will not return - nice one for calling it out!
Cheers, Mark

Hi anyone, yes you can build a website with blog software such as wordpress. Check out GamblingThemes.com, they have some great themes.
Corp, I think blogs are definitely good additions and add ons to existing sites. My point was that people who have personal blogs should keep them personal.
For example if you had a personal blog like Chrisxxxxx.com, I want to read about you and your business. Or maybe even how you are becoming a Bears fan! Not a bunch of advertising or paid reviews.

We have some member blogs on our site. Mine is basically a mix of personal and political views that is not related to my site. I think it’s pointless to have a site pimping nothing but ads and such. If it’s a mix, it can work but you must have a following first.

The T.C. blog is kinda retarded… of his last 8 posts, 4 were written by him and 1 of his (possibly 2) were blantant promotions for some thing called AdToll with affiliate links (unmasked).

You’re a dumbass for sure. But it goes way deeper than not making money on your blog.
For starters the bet you made on the Chicago Bears having a better record than the Packers. The clippers are ready whenever you are.

lol and I thought you meant Taylor Caby at first with TC, I get it now though :).

Hahaha, yea I read TCs blog religiously for a while… then it slowly became a blog about his condo… now it’s a blog where all he does is paid reviews, etc. I stopped reading after he tried to mark-up someone elses services to all his blog readers by lying.

I don’t necessarily think a paid review every now and again is bad. But when your entire personal blog becomes a big text farm or banner farm, then forget about it.
Nobody reads someone else’s personal blog to see advertisements or plugs every day.
If this blog ever becomes that, I give everyone permission to punch me in the head as hard as you can.
P.S. Don’t click on my banner, but buy a Sweat Sedo anyways. Most comfortable thing you will ever wear.

I wonder how many affiliates are out there right now sitting in their sweat sedo’s going, “Damn this is comfortable”.
December 10th, 2007 at 10:58 am
Hey Graham,
My guess, and based on statistics is that there is one other poker affiliate besides myself.
I guess I wore a suit every day for so many years that now I enjoy being comfortable.

Lol… great response… that is classic

Man it seems like its a prerequisite for an affiliate to have a personal blog. I better get making one!

Ok, I have to know…who the hell bought the Sweatsedo?!?
