Jeremy Enke PictureI suppose an “About Me” page is where you would expect to read a third person professional write up on myself. Hmmm…. well that’s not really my style, so I’ll just go ahead and tell you “about me” in my own words. Read more...

  • A Day In The Life of Jeremy Enke

October 1st, 2007 by Jeremy Enke

Poker Affiliate World LogoThere is a great thread running over at PAW right now. It was actually inspired by a post I read on a fellow poker affiliates blog. So I suppose there is no better place to post something like this than on my personal blog. Plus this way, if my Mom ever decides to stop by here, she’ll actually know that I really do work.

Although my actual work schedule is never the same, I do like to maintain some sort of structure. Also I don’t typically “work” on weekends except for checking email a few times and doing a quick scan of a few forums, including PAW.

During the week though I usually wake up around 7:30 - 8:30, depending on how late I was up the prior night. Unfortunately with a 2 and a 4 year old, sleeping in until mid morning or noon just doesn’t work. The first and most important thing I do every day is get my first cup of coffee, followed by about 4 more. I usually like to spend the first hour of my work day in my family room where I can watch Fox News, drink coffee, and spend some time with the wife and kids. Mind you I can do a quick scan of my emails, forums, and stats during this first hour of work too. If there anything pressing I can get right on it.

Then around 9:00 or so I usually run upstairs, throw something comfortable on, and head out to the office. I actually am very fortunate to have a kick ass set-up at my home for my office. My wife and I moved about a year ago and the office was already there. Essentially our garage is a 4-car tandem garage. The prior owners walled off the back and made a nice finished office looking out into my backyard. It works out great. It is attached to the house, but not right in the house where I will be distracted by the wife and kids. Plus it has great windows and a door I love to leave open to the backyard in the summer. Although twice this summer I had squirrels come in and say hello…..strange.

Anyways, once I get into the office I can actually start answering emails, private messages, and support tickets. These never seem to stop coming. Literally if I am traveling and not online for a few days…. I get buried. As soon as I get into my office I also fire up Skype. Within the hour I usually have multiple little orange boxes popping up in my tray. This job is all about communication. So between all of the various communication methods and correspondence I am usually busy with this until around lunch time.

Around 12:30 or so I will go inside and have my wife make me a meal.…… call out for something to be delivered. I’ll usually flip the news on for a few minutes too, I mean shit, In this day and age I want to make sure the world isn’t coming to an end and I am about to waste my last good afternoon.

Once back out to my office I like to spend the afternoon writing content and responding to the more emails that have rolled in over the last hour or so. I forgot to mention, all day long I have music going as well. I used to have Sirius but somehow my online account is jacked up so I have been listening to Pandora.com. <——highly recommended.

During the afternoon is also when I will schedule conference calls or try to do any phone calls that I need to get done that day. I also use this time to do some analysis on stats. Both my personal campaigns as well as all the PAW campaigns running through the affiliate network. We actually have quite a few big ballers on the PAW network. It’s really quite exciting. In total we have around 1000 affiliates (and growing every day). So it does take some time to approve new accounts and deal with the support tickets that have been bounced to me from Mitchell or Inga. Managing the PAW stuff is my favorite part of the job.

My daughter gets home from school around 3:00, so I usually step outside for a bit at this time and play with teh kids for a few minutes. Between here and around 5:00 I leave open to take care of any loose ends or whatever else has come up.

From dinner until my kids go to sleep I don’t work at all. Then after dinner I usually get back online as the Aussies are now in. I catch up with Mitchell and the rest of the crew. Depending on what great shows garbage my wife has on television I will work a bit on my couch. Night time is hit or miss though. Depending on how much I need to get done or what hot projects I am working on, the end of the night varies. Sometimes I shut down around 9:00 and am in bed by 10:00 (with wife) :) Other nights I can be up until 2:00 working.

All in all the amount of hours I work doesn’t really matter to me though. I love what I do and there is no better job in the world than being an affiliate and an internet marketer.

So that’s the “typical day”, although in this business there is really no such thing as a typical day. There are some days that I go golfing or take the kids to the park. Then there are the days I flat out just don’t feel like working. Regardless of the daily schedule however, I feel pretty confident that I work at least 60 hours per week…… and I can honestly say I love it.

Sounds like you have things in order…unless your wife sees that comment you made about her…then you will be waking up at around 7:30-8:30 ON THE COUCH lol. I have a FT job and a baby so I work on my stuff whenever possible.

      Jeremy:

How come there is no announcement about last month’s top commentator contest?

      Hey Expert,

I was going to make a post about that here today. Last night I made a post in the cocktail lounge at PAW. Go check it out, it may interest you. :)

And Nicole, my wife knows I can’t stand the reality T.V. shows that wind up on at night. maybe that’s why she’s not making my lunch for me every day!

Pandora is awesome and its all I listen too. It sounds like you have a pretty good handle on how to manage an affiliate business and actually make money. Great blog, thanks for sharing Jeremy.

It seems like you spend a lot of time at home. Have you ever considered getting an office outside of the house, just so it gets you moving a little more?

    6. Jonathan Says:

I haven’t tried Pandora yet, but I do listen to http://musicovery.com/index.php?ct=us from time to time. I think its pretty cool because you select music by mood.
I wish I had a more set schedule, I am all over the place.

    7. Jeremy Enke Says:

Yes, I do spend a fair amount of time at home. Last year I had office space that I went to every day. But then my wife decided she wanted to move into a new house

Luckily for me it already had a nice home office set-up. So I decided to break the lease and just pocket the $500 in rent each month. Plus it is nice to be able to just quit working for a few hours and be in my home.

But I do agree Graham, I need to get out more!

      And Pandora does rock.

Thanks for sharing Jeremy. Will keep reading your blog for sure.

    9. Graham Says:

Yea, maybe I am just talking like a single person with no family…. I am sure things change big time when you have the little ones running around.

    10. Ian Says:

I try to keep a fairly strict evening schedule with most of the intensive work done between 8pm and midnight. The rest of the day is spent with the kids and doing jobs around the house, etc, although I like to do an hour or two during the day as well. You just have to watch for burnout so you have to make sure you get plenty quality time which isn’t always easy!
